A note from the artist.....

Inspired by the success of my first solo show in 2013 I have explored new techniques and colour combinations for my new show "Beauty is..."

“Unlike many other painters, I have a background in realistic, figurative sculpture, film creature special effects and industrial design. Even though I teach drawing and sculpture, I did not try my hand at painting, seriously, until late 2012.

With the method I have chosen, there are certain design and sculptural aspects that separate my works from my contemporaries. Each piece is finished with a hard, durable, and sometimes textural, finish. Contrary to popular belief, this is done on purpose using warm or cold temperatures, resin, glass beads, pigments, dyes and recycled wood.

This process allows the  purchaser of the artwork the luxury of actually being able to “touch” each piece. Being a very tactile person I have always found it frustrating that I wasn’t allowed to touch artworks in the museums and galleries. So I set out to create a body of work that you could not only put your hands on, but you were encouraged to do so.

My mixed media work has been described as abstract, energetic, cosmic, explosive, random, violent, alien, cellular, and otherworldly.   At times, my work elicits an uneasy feeling in the viewer, at times a euphoric one. But one thing is certain, much like looking up at the clouds as a child, you will see something different every time you look at my work.

A multidisciplinary artist, I currently  teach Drawing and Sculpture/Props Design and Construction at The West Australian Academy for Performing Arts.  In addition to sessional teaching at WAAPA, I am also an Artistic Sales Representative for Kirkside Products and an Assistant Sensei at the West Coast Aikido Academy of Western Australia. Most recently, I have been doing Art, Design and Sculpture short courses and private tutoring for students ranging in ages of 5 to 65 across WA.
